Uttarakhand- this priceless state in the northern part of India known for its stunning landscapes, magnificent Himalayas, holy rivers and spiritual mystery is most often referred to as ‘Dev Bhoomi’ or God’s own abode.
Vayu is located in the Kumaon region of Uttarakhand, known for its native forests, surreal lakes, hidden waterfalls and charming villages. Often called ‘ The Fruit Bowl of India’, Kumaon, the land of Kurmavatar (the Tortoise incarnation of Lord Vishnu) is also home to Kumaoni people whose unique, age-old traditions are still untouched by modernity.

The first time I visited Vaayu was for a week with my family in March 2021. As I was checking out, I couldn’t wait to be back. That’s the overwhelming feeling you have after spending a few days at this wonderful home. In less that 4 months, I was back. The warmth of the ever-smiling staff and the delicious cooked food will make you feel at home. The team looking after you will go the extra mile to make your stay memorable. By the end of it, they become an extension of your family.

"Vayu is a beautiful home, just perfect for anyone who wants to spend a few days in the mountains and enjoy the peace, quiet and gorgeous views. The house itself was very charming & tastefully done up; bright, airy bedrooms and everything spotlessly clean.
We spent a very comfortable weekend as a family of 6 celebrating a birthday on the property’s stunning deck area. The staff looked after us very well and cheerfully accommodated every request from us, big or small. Meals are simple, home made good food.
The cutest bunch of dogs also live on the property (they’re very well mannered). There are some beautiful walks that can be done from Vayu which we had too little time for. The mountains around the house are a big part of the experience and the vibe of the area in general is very serene.

"Wonderful homestay. You are surrounded by greenery and stunning views. All amenities of home and it is kept as neat and clean as one's home.
Excellent hosts. Mohan ji the caretaker cum cook is a marvel. He's an outstanding cook. Food is simple but delicious. Most importantly it's served with a smile and oodles of warmth.
Vayu Retreat is about 8 mins walk from the road but the gradient is very gradual. Even a unfit city dweller like me can do it without a problem.
Evenings were getting chilly during October and my defining moments were around the fireplace in the evenings with hot pakodas and a dram of single malt! You must stay there for atleast 2 to 3 nights to do full justice to the place. Surely coming back again and again.

"We were a group of five and stayed there for a week. We loved every aspect of our stay at Vayu.
Its got the most gorgeous views being set in the middle of a large valley and in a very small town off the beaten path. Still very accessible at an 8 hr drive from delhi.
The hosts were very warm and welcoming. They have created the interiors with a lot of taste. The staff was extremely caring and made up some delicious meals 3 times a day. All of us got excited as kids about the dessert every evening.
Lastly the calm of the place will definitely bring us back soon."

Environment & Community
Nature Preservation
Our Estate is dotted with hundreds of native trees which is most precious to us and that is why, we made every arduous effort to ensure, not a Single Tree was destroyed during the making of Vayu.
Grey Water recycling
We recycle Grey Water and use it for watering our gardens & fruiting trees
Vocal for Local
Through our Earth Store, 'Guler', located very close to where we are, we support local craftsmanship and produce by stocking everything that is local, hand-made, organic and earth-friendly.
Rainwater Harvesting
In the mountains, water is perhaps the single most scarce resource which is why we rely primarily on Rain-Water Harvesting and request all our guests to use water judiciously at all times.
Jobs & Livelihood
As a practice, all the staff at Vayu have been hired from the adjoining villages so that we can consciously provide employment to locals and contribute in stopping migration to the cities. They are also personally trained by us in Guest Service and all aspects of running a homestay.
Garbage Segregation
We meticulously segregate our garbage so that the wet food waste can find its way into our composting pit and the dry, non-recyclable waste can be collected and disposed off responsibly. We also request our guests to carry their non-biodegradable trash back with them.
